The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Oct. 7 announced the launch of the Super Intelligence for Healthcare Improvement Initiative, a two-part artificial intelligence competition focusing on medical evidence reviews and data. The first competition, called the Clinical Evidence Synthesis Transformation Challenge, aims to reduce analysis times from a year or longer to hours. This competition consists of two phases, where up to five finalists will receive $100,000 each after the first, and one winner will receive $5.35 million following the second. The challenge submission period will run from Jan. 11 to March 12, 2027.

The next part of the initiative, called the SI Tech Sprint for Healthcare Research and Implementation Quality and Safety, aims to use AI to leverage AHRQ’s cost, utilization and quality databases to establish an AI-enabled ecosystem of applications for research, quality improvement and public access. The total prize pool is $2.1 million for selected winners. Submissions will be accepted from March 1 to Sept. 9, 2027. AHRQ’s webpage for the competition provides additional details, including information on registration, resources and an FAQ.
